Yamax Pedometer

Yamax pedometerYamax is a division of Japanese company Yamasa Tokei Keiki. It is best known for its Yamax Digiwalker pedometer. You can read more at the company website.

Though not as popular as the best-selling Omron or Sportline pedometers, Yamax pedometers are very highly regarded, and - at the time of writing - several were in the Amazon.com pedometer best seller rankings.

According to Galt Technology:

The Yamax Digiwalker SW 200 ($25) is a Japanese pedometer that comes highly rated in every comparison we read and reviews are only positive on this solidly made product. Some even call the Digiwalker the "Gold Standard" of pedometers. Japanese law requires that pedometers made in Japan need to be accurate within 3% and this step counter exceeds those levels. The drawback to this Yamax is that it's only a step counter and doesn't do calories, but for basics, this pedometer has "great value".

The BestCovery website wrote of the same model:

This is generally one of the highest rated pedometers on the market, used as the gold standard. It does not make it to the top of my list for two reasons. First I did not find it to be as accurate as the [Omron] HJ-112. Secondly I did not find it to be as durable. The clip is prone to breaking. For the price and ease of use it is a good buy. It counts steps only. Noise level - silent.

And About.com: Walking said about the Yamax SW-200 Digiwalker pedometer (picture):

If you want a no-fuss, highly accurate pedometer to track your daily walking steps, this is a great choice. Research has shown it to be the most accurate on the market, used as the gold standard to judge other pedometers. The drawback is that the belt clip is made of plastic and some users report it breaking. Also, you really need a leash for it as I find it pops off my waistband during restroom stops.
