Sony Network Walkman with PedometerSony has announced the 1G NW-S203F and the 2G NW-S205F Network Walkman models, equipped with pedometers. Engadget commented: Watch out Apple and Nike, because Sony's got a new set of Network Walkmen waiting in the wings that pack a pedometer right into the players themselves, eliminating the need for a separate kit and expensive pair of sneakers. Although it doesn't sound like the cigar-shaped, 2GB NW-S205F and 1GB NW-S203F will offer the same online experience as you'd find at the Nikeplus website, you're still getting calorie, step, and distance counter functionality right out of the box, along with a stopwatch and FM tuner -- plus an armband to keep everything secure. Macworld's Gadgetbox said: Sony's latest version of its Network Walkman MP3 player will have yet another chance to regain the crown that was once held by its portable cassette player ancestor, but now resides casually on the brow of Apple's iPod. The tubular 2GB NW-S205F and 1GB NW-S203F (will Sony ever learn about marketing?) already have FM tuners and stopwatches, but now they also include a pedometer, allowing you to measure calories, steps, and distance (wherever did they get that idea?). According to MP3 Newswire.net: If you like the idea of the Apple/Nike device that allows you to track your workouts on your iPod, but are not ready to invest over $100 in special Nikes to go with Apple's $30 device, Sony is introducing another option. The new Sony sport players comes in 2GB (NW-S205F) and 1GB (NW-S203F) capacities and will have a built-in pedometer to measure calories, distance, and the number of steps taken. The player also comes with a stopwatch to time your runs (or walks) and like the Nike + iPod you will be able to upload the information on a website and chart your progress. Gizmodo noted: These metal S-series players are built for sports, and they're water resistant with a spiffy "collar knob" for music navigation. The G-Sensor inside enables a pedometer, and there's also a calorie counter and a stopwatch, too. Not only does it also have an FM tuner, but its one-line organic EL display is easy to see in the dark, and it takes just three minutes to charge up the batteries for three hours of playback, or total of 18 hours of battery life on a full charge. These look like some innovative players. * Get the Latest Price on the Sony Network Walkman See also my report Guide to Buying the Best Pedometer.
