Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier
One of the most popular is the Holmes 3500 eight-gallon cool mist humidifier (picture), which comes in various configurations. The latest model is the 3501. According to a product description: * 8-gallon console humidifier with GE motor humidifies up to 1700 square feet * Wick filter traps minerals and impurities; 3-stage Microban protection * Measures 15 by 22-3/4 by 20-1/2 inches; 5-year warranty Possibly the best way to learn about this product is through the customer reviews at Amazon.com. Reading as many of these as possible will give you a good insight as to whether this is the model for you. At Amazon.com various sellers are offering different versions of this humidifier. At this Amazon.com page Here is part of a five-star review: This is my fourth winter using this product and I can't say enough good things about it. This unit has made it through 2 moves without any malfunction or damage. I do use a little bactriastat in the water to cut down on cleaning. I simply wash it all out in the spring and dust it off in the fall. Contrary to some of the reviews below, I only change my filter once a year. I've noticed that the filter indicator gauge takes a while to register so if you let the unit run for a half hour or so, you can get an accurate reading but again, I don't see the need replace more than once a season with city water. The tanks are heavy so if you can't lift 20lbs or so you should get a smaller unit but I love the fact I don't have to fill this more than twice or week or so. I have never had any problem with tanks sealing, although I do leave the caps off when I store it for the summer to make sure the tanks get good and dry. They can be a little tricky to thread but once you get the hang of it it's quick and simple. And an excerpt from a two-star review: My biggest issue is that this thing is a pain in the butt to put water in. You have to take out this large, cumbersome plastic container and fill it at the sink (or better, at the bathtub since it's so unnecessarily tall). It won't sit flat (the bottom is strangely configured) so you have to stand there and hold it in place as it fills and gets heavy. This last design flaw could have been easily averted if they had simply provided a lid with a tank, like a Mr. Coffee coffee maker has, and you could then bring water in a small bucket TO the unit. This would have made infinitely more sense. But now I own it so I'm stuck with this gurgling juggernaut for awhile. I recommend that you look at alternative manufacturers if you are in need of a large dehumidifier. * Get More Information and the Latest Prices on Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier See also my report Buyers Guide to the Best Humidifiers.
