Accusplit Pedometer

Accusplit pedometerAccusplit pedometers enjoy an enormous reputation. Here is what the company says at its website:

Accusplit carried its reputation for quality, innovation and leadership to the health and wellness industry with a patented accuracy method for pedometers in 1987. It was also one of the first companies in America to introduce the 10,000 Steps-A-Day for wellness concept that originated in Japan in 1965.

With 33 years of professional sports measurement experience in elite level sports, including track and field, swimming, baseball and football, Accusplit is now the Official Pedometer of the PGA Tour and Champions Tour. Its Pedometers and Pedometer-based Activity Wellness Programs are the tools that everyone in America and every golfer can use to achieve a healthier lifestyle.

Accusplit pedometers feature regularly on the pedometer bestseller list, with the Accusplit Eagle pedometer especially popular.

In February 2009 Consumer Reports ranked the Accusplit AE190XLG as second best buy pedometer, after the Omron HJ-112, in a survey of sporting equipment.

It is difficult to find online any objective and independent reviews of Accusplit pedometers. However, has numerous customer reviews, and these can provide excellent guidance for potential purchasers.

There are some 60 reviews for the very popular Accusplit AE120XL pedometer (picture), with more than three-quarters of them four-star or five-star reviews.

Here is an excerpt from a lengthy five-star review:

This pedometer comes complete with a lithium battery installed; there's nothing else to buy. The battery should last at least 5 years.

- The only "control" is the reset button. Press this and the counter goes to zero; which is what I do every morning.

- It counts every step you walk or jog, from 1 to 99999, then starts over. That's enough capacity for about 50 miles!

...This pedometer works well, is simple to use, reasonably accurate, unobtrusive, has a terrific warranty, and inspires me to walk more. At the price, it's also a bargain.

And another:

This is the 5th pedometer I've had in the 5 years since I started using them. It is wonderful and the best one so far. It is accurate and so easy to operate. Just one button to push. I highly recommend this model.

And a two-star review:

I researched the web and magazines before I bought this pedometer. It was highly recommended. #1 opening the case is IMPOSSIBLE! I have broken two nails trying to open it, opened the back instead, and dropped it [as a result of which, the battery dropped out and I lost the day's data]. #2 I don't think it counts steps any better than pedometers in the same price range found in any store.
