Shoe Pedometer

shoe pedometerSeveral products go under the name shoe pedometer.

One is the Shoe Odometer (picture), which claims great accuracy (and also helps you know when it is time to replace your shoes). Here are some of its features and benefits, according to the company's website:

Helps Prevent injuries
Running or walking in worn-out shoes increases your rate of injury.
Monitor stride rate to prevent excessive stress from over-striding.
Peace of mind knowing that your shoes are protecting you to their fullest.

Ease of Use
Automatically tracks shoe wear.
Just put it on and go.
No more guessing; tells you when you need new shoes.
Lightweight - forget you have it on.
Display screens - Simple and straightforward.
Never log shoe miles again.

Here is a product description:

Revolutionary new product, designed and developed by a longtime running coach. Walkers as well as runners are talking about it. So tough it can withstand being run over by a car. Worn on the shoe, so it is extremely accurate. Wynn Davis, serious ultra runner, says "The Shoe Odometer is just sweet. It's so inconspicuous and it functions very well under harsh conditions."

Go to for the latest price and for customer reviews. At the time of writing there were six of these, all but one a five-star review.

Another product marketed as a shoe pedometer is the Nike + iPod Sport Kit. This is a sensor to place in a pocket in Nike running shoes. According to a product description:

Check out the Nike + iPod menu and choose how you want to run. You can use custom workout shortcuts to start your favorite workouts quickly. Try the open-ended workout or select one with time, distance, or calorie goals. Then pick your favorite playlist, shuffle songs, or choose Nike-created Sport Music. You can even program a Power Song to play when you need instant motivation.

As you run, your iPod or iPhone 3GS tells you your time, distance, pace, and calories burned. And it gives you feedback at the halfway point and in the final lead-up to your goal. You can also see the details of your workout on your iPod or iPhone 3GS.

Again, check for the latest price and 50 customer reviews, with 39 of these four-star or five-star reviews.
