CS500 - The New Polar Heart Monitor
Today Polar is a giant global enterprise. It employs 1,200 people at 26 subsidiaries around the world, with a distribution network supplying over 35,000 retail outlets in more than 80 countries. And it is a recognized leader in the design and production of heart rates monitors for a very wide range of applications. It divides its monitors into three categories. The first of these, running and multi-sport devices, are for active sports people. The second category, fitness and cross-training, is made up of monitors that provide data for people in training. And the third category is for cyclists. The company's newest product, the CS500, which is due to be released to the market in spring 2010, falls into this third category. It is a cycling computer and heart monitor and it offers some quite superb features that suggest it will very quickly be embraced by the cycling community. One of the key features is what the company describes as a two-way rocker switch, which allows the bike rider to operate the computer safely and rapidly by just a gentle touch of the left or right side of the handlebar unit. Thus, the computer can be operated even when traveling at quite high speeds. This feature places it in sharp contrast to the small buttons on many cycle computers. Another important feature is an over-sized display, which can be read easily, even when moving very fast, and which offers a large amount of data. The device will be able to provide a huge amount of heart rate information combined with cycling data. Thus, the cyclist can measure such aspects as speed, distance and temperature, altitude, ascended and descended distance and hill steepness. At the end of the ride, all the data can be entered into a computer and stored or processed. Polar already makes a range of impressive cycling computers, but, at first appearance, it would seem that the new CS500 will take its products to a new level. * Check out the Polar Store See also my Guide to Buying the Best Heart Rate Monitor and my report Polar Heart Rate Monitors.
