Homemade Pregnancy Test

homemade pregnancy testHome pregnancy tests from online retailers like Amazon.com have become so cheap that there seems little point in relying on a probably-unreliable homemade pregnancy test. If you are really desperate there are family planning associations and other organizations that will arrange a free pregnancy test for you.

To see just how wild are some of the claims for homemade pregnancy tests, check out this:

I've heard of one, but I think you have to be like 5 months pregnant already, and I was told it's just a gender test. With crystal draino, mix equal parts urine and crystal draino. Brown for boy, And I've heard a lot for girl... White for girl, blue for not... but then I've heard blue for girl. So, I don't know... I've heard one with Pine Sol, but I don't know how to do it.

Though the Buzzle website claims that homemade tests can work. It provides an example:

Homemade Pregnancy Test with Dandelion Leaves: Remove the dandelion leaves off the stem and keep them on a piece of plastic wrap on the ground. Leave them on the ground and make sure they are not under direct sunlight. Now urinate on the dandelion leaves and ensure that you saturate them thoroughly. Let the leaves as it is and check on them after every ten minutes. If red blisters appear on the leaves, it is a sign that you may be pregnant.

But here is what eHow says:

A modern homemade pregnancy test, currently making the rounds on Internet bulletin boards and chat rooms, involves women urinating on dandelion leaves. If red blisters appear on the leaves after an hour, you are pregnant. Leaves that remain the same indicate you are not pregnant. While some believe this is a "fail-safe" test, no evidence points to it's efficacy.

And it warns:

While these tests might be a fun way to explore science and possibly confirm pregnancy, it is important that a pregnant woman accurately verify her pregnancy so that she can seek prenatal care as soon as possible. The quickest and most reliable way to do that is to purchase a home pregnancy test or have pregnancy confirmed via a blood or urine test at your doctor's office.

As mentioned above, you can easily buy cheap pregnancy tests that are regarded as very reliable. The best examples are from Wondfo, a Chinese company.

At the time of writing, Wondfo held the top three places on the Amazon.com Bestsellers in Pregnancy Testspregnancy test 2 list, and customer reviews rated them highly.

As an example of price, at the time of writing, Amazon.com was offering the product Early Detection Pregnancy Tests - 10 Tests for just $4.68.
