Gospel Lighters - Impassioned, Hellfire Preaching Mixed with Raw and Gutsy MusicHe’s back. Duane Smith is pastor of the Clinton Free Will Baptist Church in Indiana, and he runs Gospel Lighters, one of my favourite Southern Gospel radio programmes. When I first discovered Southern Gospel music, just a couple of years ago, and began searching the internet for online radio stations, his was one of the first I found. I used to listen a lot. I wrote about Gospel Lighters in September last year. This is part of what I said: The [programme] is a real find. It’s a 30-minute weekly show from Duane Smith of the Clinton Free Will Baptist Church in Indiana. I’ve no idea what Free Will Baptists are, but if they have Duane Smith as their pastor they have to be on fire. He confesses that sometimes the spirit takes him over, and you can hear it on some of his shows - impassioned, hellfire preaching mixed with raw and gutsy music. Unfortunately, soon after I posted my article, heavy expenses forced Gospel Lighters of the internet. But now he’s back, as part of the Live365 online radio network. Go and listen. I commend Duane and his music ministry most highly. And here are some other online Southern Gospel resources that have become personal favourites: All Quartets Radio – Carl Ramsey’s online ministry provides 24-hour programming with many of the traditional Southern Gospel greats. The Gospel Station, based in Oklahoma, plays (in its own words) “the best music this side of Heaven”. The Gospel Hiway - Otis Dyson began his music ministry in 1998, and now offers 24-hour online programming. WWJC Radio in Minnesota provides music from the Solid Gospel network. The Southern Gospel Music Forum has many links to online resources. So too does ChristianTuner.com. Thank you to Phillip Johnson for providing some of these links. November 21st, 2003
