Top Tips for Beating Cat Allergies

The following tips have been gleaned from the many websites that present advice for allergy sufferers:

+ Keep your cat out of the bedroom. That's where we spend up to a third of our lives.

+ Try to keep your cat off the furniture. (Not easy.)

+ Brush the cat daily and bathe it weekly, while wearing a dust mask. (Better still, assign these tasks to a non-allergic friend.)

+ Install HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filters, and vacuum with a HEPA vacuum cleaner twice weekly. Wipe down walls and flat surfaces. Air the house regularly.

+ Vapor steam cleaners are also effective in killing off cat allergens.

+ Replace curtains with blinds, and carpets with tiles or hardwood flooring.

+ Wash bedding and other fabrics regularly.

+ Always wash your hands after handing your cat.
